Orphan Black starts with a great opening hock - one that ensures you stay though the first few episodes.
And while the mystery soon fades, by then its hocked you in other ways. Great characters, solid drama and the constant want to see what happens next.
I can in a very vague sense compare it to Steven Moffat
s "Jekyll", in that its episodes can be very different from eachother in structure and focus while somehow fitting together into a well worked out overall structure. It shares its sense of humor too, something very needed for balance in a show like this.
Special props goes to the actress, Tatiana Maslany
, who works overtime to give an excellent main performance. Although none of the other performances are particularly bad either.
While technically none of its component pieces is unique, the combination of dark humor,sci-fi and drama makes Orphan Black something thats truly an individual.
