Cult had an interesting premise, and was from a writer I really like. It also had a solid cast.
So I am not sure what went wrong.
The series is about another TV show, also called "Cult", which not only is about a cult, but has, rather appropriately, a cult following of its own.
Following me so far?
Then a guys brother goes missing - a brother who was also obsessed with the show. Nothing seems that unusual at first, until elements of the show start turning up in the real world.
We slowly find out that his brother was kidnapped and being tested for some reason - apparently being initiated into a real world cult that mirrors the tv shows cult.
To the shows credit, nothing is straight forward. Its not simply someone recreating crimes, or obsessed fans out of hand. Theres more to it then that.
But the show takes so long to get anywhere. Most of the episodes are following leads that go nowhere or "cancel out". You only start to get answer's by the end of the season, but by then its too late - the answers might be intriguing but the show was already canceled so its just frustrating by then.
In short, skip it. Watch Farsape, Seaquest or Defiance instead. All by the same creator, and all much better.
