At the time of writing, The Unwritten is one of the most interesting and gripping story's I have read.
Its hard to sum up without doing it a disservice as its scopes vaste and it touches upon so many things.
The core of the story surrounds Tom Taylor - a reluctant "star" because his father wrote a set of Harry Potter like books using him as the protagonist. Many of his fans struggle to separate the real Tom from his fictional counterpart, much to Toms annoyance.
When Tom survives and explosion, this belief quickly escalates with many believing him now to be the character in the books. To compound matters further it seems Toms father - long missing - has been planning something, manipulating Tom all his life to preparing him for something.
What follows is a conspiracy,action-adventure-romance with touches of superherics throwen in. There really isnt a genre left untouched - and given the importance of books and storys to the narrative its entirely appropriate.
At one point - when we are finding out a characters backstory, theres even a issue done completely as a chose your own adventure. Not just a awesome gimmick though, as plotwise it makes sense to have that there.
While it isn't the easiest comic to get into (I almost gave up at #6), it goes on to become one of the most rich and original universes in narrative history. Each issue cant come quickly enough.
