<P>District 9 is an absolutely must see movie.
I was unsure at first, as due to marketing and summery s it seemed like it would be a simplistic, overly-moralizing film. Id seen enough of that, thank you very much. I know people different from us arnt necessarily worse....Xmen has been drilling that message into kids for generations already.
Thankfully though, thats not really want the films about. Things arnt presented black and white, it isnt all about the mistreatment of aliens, and its not merely a blatant metaphor for more human atrocities.
This is a smart action film, that paints a realistic situation of what would happen if a million aliens showed up. But the story itself is a more action/drama one. In many ways it felt like 24, or another fast paced tv serial. Theres a lot happening, and you see it from a lot of different angles, but it mostly follows one guys experience though out it all.
Its quite violent in places. Actually very violent indeed. But fortunately the camera never hangs on the scenes, or makes it too gratuitous.
The acting of the lead charecter is utterly superb, adding a lot of believability to it all. The story is nice, and fairly well worked out, allthough not-quite everything is explained. It is, however, a lot more complex then I thought going in.
Overall expect lots of twists, great action scenes, good special effects. and a mecha.
